KRISTINE LAQUINDANUM - OJT Experience

THE PEARL PLACE CONDOMINIUM, ORTIGAS CENTER
MONOLITH CORPORATION

I spent my 240 hours of OJT full of enjoyment, and new ideas from different engineers who guided us through the entire time. We shared laughs, food during breaks and even some personal experiences. This program of Faculty of Engineering, Civil Engineering Department, allowed the students to observe and have an idea in different construction materials and procedures.

A 42-storey condominium owned by Robinsons Land and Monolith Corp. as its contractor.

We were divided into five groups and distributed into different divisions:

FIRST WEEK - FORMWORKS

Engr. Lheo Manrique taught us of the difference between the traditional and modern formworks; the different parts of a formwork and its table; how it is fled out going to the next storey.

SECOND WEEK - SURVEYING

Engr. Ralph Ocsan, together with his 4 admins, taught us to use total station; how to asbuilt the slab; and marking the one-meter offset.

THIRD WEEK - FINISHES, PRECASTS,CONCRETING

We had an opportunity to stay overnight at the site to witness how precasted walls were installed. In the finishes, we saw how the walls were made smooth through the use of the machine. Also, we had a chance to see how the pouring of concrete slabs and footing take place.

FOURTH WEEK - EXCAVATION

Engr. Fel Gabinete taught us how the back hoe is operated and the depth to be hauled for the footing.

FIFTH WEEK - REBAR

We were taught by Engr. Hertz dela Pena how to inspect the number of rebar in beams before it is poured with concrete; and how the stirrups in columns are to be installed.
